Science Lab - Making Fossils Day 2

The girls finished their fossil lab and found it quite intriguing that they could actually get a description of an item without actually seeing it. They both decided that it was easier to get information from a cast fossil instead of a mold or trace fossil. To make their cast fossil they imprinted the shape into clay then filled it with plaster and let the plaster dry. When it was dry they separated the clay from the plaster. (separates very easily if you put it in the microwave for 5 seconds)

What they concluded from their lab is that although you can get a sense of texture and shape you can't conclude what the outward appearance is of a fossil, such as color or material it is made from.
